I was recently approached by a 20-year-old life coach who told me he could help me live a more fulfilling life.
I couldn’t help but smile.
After about ten minutes of conversation, it became clear he had limited life experience.
Eventually, he admitted to relying on AI for questions to ask his clients and strategies to help them improve.
Now, I have to say, I admire the initiative he’s taking.
It’s not easy to put yourself out there and try to help others, especially at that age.
What does it mean for someone, in this case with limited experience, to be coaching others, relying heavily on technology instead of personal experience?
Curiosity got the better of me, so I decided to go down the rabbit hole.
Did you know that as of 2023, there are approximately 109,200 certified life coaches worldwide, with 34,200 based in North America?
However a LinkedIn search for "life coach" yields nearly 300,000 profiles, suggesting a broader scope of practitioners.
I’m a big fan of AI, but I believe the real magic happens when AI and human collaboration(i.e. EQ) work together.
