Are you focused or aimlessly combing the market?
I had a conversation with a local business owner, the other day, and asked him, " Who's your market?"
He looked at me and said, " I don't know." 🤷🏻♂️
With a confused look I asked him, " Who are your best customers?"
Again his words rang out, " I don't know." 😮
I don't know is good to say when you're sitting in a Jersey diner and the waiter is there in 2 seconds, asking you what you want, as you look at the menu, which is similar to the Iliad & Odyssey by Homer. (Side note, Disco Fries are always a solid order)
I DON"T KNOW is not a response a business owner should have about their market.
Which leads me to Step #3 in your plan.
Step #3 ➡️ Define and Redefine Target Market
✅ Who are your customers?
✅ Who is your competition targeting? What are the similarities?
✅ What are your products/services?
✅ Who is buying each product/service? What are the demographics?
✅ Get specific and define your niche.
✅ Who else might be a good target?
Don't over complicate this. Pick few personas to map out.
Example: Married, College Grad, Income $75K+, Runner, Reads Newsweek, etc.
Is this for B2B or B2C?
There's so much noise about marketing strategies around B2B vs B2C (Business to Business vs Business to Consumers)
At the end of the day marketing is H2H (Human to Human).
Don't over think it, just get started!
